Agenda

A name for our process? Joint events at the World Social Forum (WSF) virtual meeting, 23-31 January 2021 Actions regarding Palestine

A name for our process? A suggestion had been made from the smaller working group to have a common name for this dialogue of global processes. There was some hesitancy as this was felt to be premature, but it was recognised that a common name could give a shared purpose.

The suggestion “ Invitation to Global Dialogues of Hope” was put forward, to be discussed in each of the processes as well as during our common meetings. There is no hurry to come to a conclusion on this, but the sooner the better to be able to indicate a common purpose/collaboration.

Joint events at the World Social Forum (WSF)

1. Opening plenary (23 Jan 2021)

A discussion was held on the opportunities for the global processes to participate collectively in the opening plenary of the WSF. The following was proposed / decided: Ashish was invited to be part of the keynote speakers at the opening plenary. This request came from the WSF IC and was based on having Asian representation, his work with the global processes and locally in India.

Ashish suggested he could try to convey both the view from Asia as also about the coming together of the global processes. Responsibility: Ashish

The global processes would be invited to make a five minute video which would be shared on the opening day. (this is not clear: Francine/Rosy, can you pl. clarify if this is in addition to Ashish’s opening slot?) Responsibility: not clarified

Each process would have a 2-3 minute slot, but it would be good to have some way of connecting them. The proposal is for each global process to produce a short video of their main message, and in put the logos of all the 6/7 processes to indicate the fact that we are collaborating with each other. Responsibility: each global process

2. Thematic day on Democracy & Social Justice (28 Jan 2021)

It was noted that the Democracy theme has been combined with Social Justice. Francine made a call for a separate workshop on emerging facism; Ashish felt that this should be combined with movements of radical democracy.

The following are proposed: A speaking slot in the opening panel. Francine will clarify on this possibility.

Self-organised workshop/session on activism and solidarity, including forms of networking, weaving, and cognitive social justice. Responsibility: Ana Cecilia and (tbc) Mabrouka

Self-organised workshop/session on radical democracy vs. right-wing authoritarianism / fascism. Responsibility: to be determined

3. Thematic day on Ecology/Climate (29 Jan 2021)

Tord has invited inputs to this. One proposal is for a workshop/session on Community Resilience in COVID times, and lessons from this for ‘recovery packages’. Responsibility: Franco & Vasna

4. Day of assemblies (30 Jan 2021)

Francine suggested an assembly on Democracy and Social Justice, putting together the various strands from previous days.

Hamouda however said that our collective focus should be to discuss our collaboration and messages of global solidarity, and plans for the future.

Christophe and others suggested this could also be a space to invite other global processes.

So the proposals: Assembly on Democracy/Social Justice: some representatives from our processes to take part. Responsibility: Francine? Who else?

Assembly of all our global processes, most of us present here. Responsibility: Hamouda? Who else can help coordinate?

5. Agora (31 Jan 2021)

Not clear; perhaps we can collectively have a voice in this? To be clarified with organising team.

Palestine Yousef stressed the need to highlight the Palestine issue across the WSF and subsequently, if possible in the Opening panel, in one or more self-organised workshops, as part of the above suggested workshops in the Democracy Theme, and in the global dialogue assembly. He will be in touch with relevant people to work these out.
