Meeting log: 18 February

Facilitator: Marta Note-taker: Marta

Attendees: Pierre, Christophe, Raffaella, Justin, Eva, Shrishtee, Franco, Vasna, Ashish, Marko, Rosy

1. Check-in

2. Follow up to WSF: report of assemblies; collective statement of diagnosis & prognosis/vision; upcoming events where joint activities can be taken up (20min)

Short summary from Pierre based on draft report: it reflects what the assemblies were, diverse, pluralistic, not strictly organized, ideas going left right and center, hard to capture in a systematic way, there were differences and debates, we don’t necessarily agree. We need to recover the internationalist spirit we use to have before. Systematized the two sessions (6h)

Action point: everyone to have a look and suggest edits by February 25th so we can publish the reports.

Eva: report was excellent, and astonishingly thorough. About next steps: calendar of global events happening in 2021. Reminder that G2G has an event at the end of May 2021 around new thinking around new political systems, new forms of economics and media.

Christophe: 4 tings to do –> 1) upcoming activities and campaigns in which to be involved (climate justice towards COP 26, the vaccine as common good). 2) extract from the report a list of events; 3) the manifesto /declaration (ID card of the network of networks); 4) see concretely what it means to work together.

Ashish: 5th point do we want to add new people.

Rosy: very interesting document, great assemblies, I was really exhausted but I think it was a wonderful opportunity to connect struggles. Now we need to think about concrete actions.

Rafaela: Priority to work on common calendar, actions and declaration and how to improve our cooperation before integrating new networks. Second issue is to resist temptation of thematic silos. Try to identify which are the possible intersectional issues which can produce some steps forward. The vaccine is one of these.

Justin: support intersectional action. Situation in India – is there anything that we can support the struggles in India and amplify struggles/alternatives.
Pierre: let´s concentrate on what has been done: finish report, do the manifesto, establish a work plan, and the work plan can integrate various events, and some activities that we can do jointly in the next few months (who is doing what + resources etc). Priority is the pandemic. Linking up with other groups is important, but not a priority.

Eva: would caution before having a name and a manifesto. Need to spend more time getting to know each other, and have process. Can sketch out a draft process of how that would look like.

Ashish: Not a manifesto per say beginning of understanding of the diagnosis of the crisis in which we are and elements of the prognosis. We don´t have to jump into a name, but just for the logistics.

(from the chat: people agree with Dialogue of Global Processes)

Christophe: No idea on the name. About the process, the difficult is that we need time to know each other more but at the same time we will lose the momentum, and that would be a pity. We can give each other 2-3 months.

Marko: in favour of keeping up the momentum. Also, if you could sign this:https://docs.google.com/document/d/1aZBG1QFFJR3JrjfNt7-EM3A4jTstZpiqqHKJUr2itO0/edit?usp=sharing

Shristee: agree to work on a document helping us analysis, prognosis, differences and similarities between different networks. we can set up a process where we ask ourselves and different people different questions. Im happy to do it and getting that content together.

Pierre: look at the report it has the summary. I would like to reconcile the idea of taking care of the process and action-oriented perspective. When we do things together we discover ourselves.

Justin: we all work differently – I focus on particular issues. Amplify what is happening in India, and do the work on the virus, COP in Glasgow so we don’t duplicate efforts

3. Other global processes to invite, if any (15 min)

Action point: decision to hold off on inviting other processes for now

4. Relationship building among ourselves (Eva 15 min)

Action points: - Eva will start a draft on the process of relationship building - Marta and Shrishtee will work on a document to help us with analysis of differences and similarities between the different networks based on past surveys, discussions and report.

5. Future actions

Action points: - Pierre and Global Dialogue can take the lead on this COVID issue (keeping in mind Progressive International is also working on something regarding the vaccine and could potentially collaborate) - Marta will create a collaborative doc with events in 2021(include Nov COP Glasgow in November and AFPF in May)

Raffael: new global event on the amazonic event, very focused on the present situation.

Ashish: if we cant join the events, we could issue statement of solidarity and you can carry that as the representative of the process.
