Meeting log: 1st June
1. Feedback from initiated collaborations
After a round of check-ins, the different processes shared the highlights of their work in the last weeks, including activities where collaborations between the Global Processes took place.
Frederic - First meeting held for Parliament of Planetary Citizenship and the Council of Wisdoms of the Earth's People. Themes to be decided on which the parliament will be working on. The bigger task is creating an assembly of citizens. The council will need work to become autonomous and pluralistic. The Parliament process is the 2nd common action of the global networks active in the multiconvergence.
Hamouda - WSF for ‘Free Palestine’ will be held in November.
Vasna – GTA webinar series upcoming. Involved with the “Reworlding” event, and an Indigenous conference in Canada.
Justin – Held a successful Reworlding event
Madhuresh (WGBD) - A proposal to organise a ‘People’s reply to BRICS’
2. Discussion and decisions on the proposal There was general support for the proposal.
There was general support for the proposal.
3. On working groups on Dialogue and Action -
Leo- What people and processes all over the world have in common is the urgency to transform the state/politics. Simultaneously, there are processes in the world which are movements around a new constitutionalism. We as a global platform need to talk about the contents, objectives, and strategies to achieve.
Justin - The Dialogue space can be also help supervise+support the grassroots work
Hamouda - The thematics on which our actions will be based are known to us all. So, Dialogue can help build the facilitative processes on which our future actions can then be built on.
Frederic - Instead of thinking Dialogue and Action, we can invert the two. Once the action is there (for eg. The parliament), we can have more fruitful dialogues.
Justin - Both processes can feed into each other.
Vasna - Perhaps a distinction is that dialogue is internal whilst action is outward to the world.
Eva - We could think of this as a phase of making experiments and seeing what works best for us both in the action and the reflection spaces
Ashish - What this platform does is give us a space to understand (and take action towards) the global roots of the deep-lying issues in various regions around the world. Marcos - We have to find a way of affirming our presence by defining another field of action, different from the ones led by capital. We often react to capital through our agendas, instead of being active agents against it.
Justin - Sometimes regionalising is useful, sometimes it's misleading. War and colonisation in Africa or Middle East is in large part the result of action and inaction in America and Europe
Hamouda - We can move from these current discussions to seminars where we get to know each other and the issues we work on. From the webinars, we can then have actions on those issues.
Moema - It is crucial to have a link between the two groups. So we can have dialogues from actions that are existing. Instead of thinking of regional actions, we could find common actions for us all, linking global processes.
Decision: Volunteers for the Action group - Leo and Pierre and Eva and Hamouda for the dialogue group
4. Coordination Team
Pierre, Eva and Vasna continue to volunteer as facilitators. But looking towards finding funds. Each global process will be asked to contribute 1000USD towards the dialogue process, if they can afford to.
5. Comunication
We need a common text/declaration for all the groups to showcase that this Global Platform exists. Franco volunteered to develop this. A simple and minimalist website can be put together over a short period. Vasna - Should we use another platform to communicate internally. Working groups perhaps use different platforms. Main platform can still be emails.
Leo - Suggestion for name - Global People’s Assembly/Global Assembly of People Vasna- Main title: Adelante which means going forward in Spanish. Secondary title: “Social movements working together” or “Platform of global movements for justice and sustainability” or “Dialogue of Global Processes for systemic Transformation” Agreement that we would keep using Dialogue of Global Processes and think on the name.
Actions: · Eva, Pierre and Vasna will continue as the coordination team for now. · Eva and Hamouda volunteer to convene the dialogue space and Pierre and Leo volunteer to convene the action space · Each global process will see if they can contribute 1000USD for the coordination of the dialogue process. The coordination team will write to the representatives on this ·
Franco will develop a short text on the dialogue process for inclusion on all websites
· Communication will continue through email
