Towards a New World Social Forum
This initiative is the result of a coincidence, the meeting of a small group of people who are not all on the same ideological line but who are convinced that in 2021, on the 20th anniversary of the World Social Forum, the realities of the world today and of social movements must be examined collectively.
Boaventura de Sousa Santos (Portugal), Roberto Savio (Italy), Oscar Gonzalez (Mexico), Leo Gabriel (Austria), Norma Fernandez (Argentina) and Francine Mestrum (Belgium) have decided to get together and issue an invitation to a debate on the World Social Forum. They are all members of its International Council.
They quickly received the support of some 'historical' members of this same International Council and a few weeks later a very large group of personalities from all over the world agreed with this idea.
The initiative comes from us, but the group is currently open to all those who share our concern and are ready to engage in a dialogue about the past, present and future of the World Social Forum with the aim of building a global political issue. The only condition is to believe that another world is possible and that it can emerge if we organize ourselves politically, democratically and respecting our diversity.
